Wawa has been a partner of JDRF since 1994, and in that time, it has raised significant funds to support T1D research. Wawa’s commitment is seen throughout the company. Several Wawa employees serve on JDRF chapter boards of directors and many more engage in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes and JDRF Gala in their local markets. Additionally, Wawa supports events with in-kind contributions. Wawa operates more than 600 convenience stores throughout portions of Delaware, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Central Florida was pleased to see Wawa enter the marketplace. They stepped up in a huge way by being our “Good Neighbor Partner” in providing lunch for our 5,000 Orlando walkers in 2013. This year our walkers will get to enjoy breakfast and lunch by Wawa. If you stop in to your local Wawa please remember to thank the employees for their support and countless man hours making those delicious hoagies.
From September 23 to October 20, Wawa customers have the chance to contribute $1, $3 or $5 at check-out. Wawa associates play an important role in this campaign by encouraging customers to join them in supporting JDRF’s mission.
Wawa customers are offered an additional way to support JDRF through its Coin Collection Campaign. From September 22 to October 19, canisters are placed at each register, offering consumers an opportunity to donate their spare change to support type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. In 2013, more than $344,761 was collected, taking small change and turning it into a great impact.
In 2013, combined with the donations at check-out and the coin collection, Wawa contributed more than $600,000 to JDRF.
