Start small and finish BIG is definitely the motto CDM Smith is chanting these days. In 2010, the team had 10 walkers and raised a little over $3,000. Most would say this was a success however with some innovative thinking, team captain Danielle Chater has been able to grow CDM Smith to one of Central Florida’s top five teams raising over $10,000 for type one diabetes research. CDM Smith has not only been successful at raising their overall contributions, they have also increased their team members. How does a team that started so small do this you might be asking?
CDM Smith started by taking a long hard look at their fundraising campaigns. They evaluated what events seemed to get the best results and focused their efforts into making those events successful. The basic principal of quality over quantity. There most successful campaigns consist of jeans day at $935, potluck lunch at $443, and a silent auction $1,667.
Growing that walker base was the next huddle and what is a great motivator to do that-offer a prize! The leadership of the company donates a big screen TV each year for walkers to participate in a raffle. The caveat is you must be present on walk day to win. Tickets are pre-sold and extra tickets can be earned through various tasks such as registering for walk, individual fundraising, and participating in company fundraisers. The raffle raised over $300 this year and continues to help them increase their companywide participation.
With a little bit of imagine and a group of dedicated employees CDM Smith has definitely finished BIG! They are on track to surpass their team goal and raise over $10,000 this year not to mention hit a record number of 96 walkers.
